Issuing recognized personal photo identification cards to Oneida County residents
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office issues personal photo identification cards to individuals.
Identification (ID) cards are issued on Mondays and Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office is closed on all legal Holidays. The charge for an ID card is $20.00. Personal checks and debit or credit cards are not accepted. If you have questions concerning the requirements for obtaining an ID card or if you do not understand the days and hours on which ID cards are issued, please call (315) 765-2223.
Identification cards are available for persons over the age of twelve. Cards for persons under the age of 21 are clearly marked "UNDER 21." The Personal Identification Card shows an individual's photo, signature, address, height, eye color, sex, and date of birth. The identification cards issued by the Sheriff's Office are recognized as proof of identity by most Oneida County businesses and agencies, including the Oneida County Airport and the airports in Syracuse, Albany, and Rochester.
Identification cards are not acceptable proof of identity when applying for a license or permit at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. By law, the cards are not acceptable proof of age for the purchase of alcoholic beverages, though, in reality, many county establishments accept the Sheriff's Office identification cards more readily than college or out-of-state identification.
