According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the suicide of an inmate at the Oneida County Correctional facility.

On Saturday January 5th, 2019 at approximately 3:45pm Officers found Scott Hence, age 31 of Rome, unresponsive in his cell. Correction Officers and Medical Staff immediately began life saving measures. Hence was then transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica and was transferred to Upstate Medical in Syracuse later that evening. He was pronounced dead at Upstate Medical Center and the body was transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office this morning for an autopsy.

Hence was being held for arraignment for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, a Class A Felony and a Parole Violation Warrant.

In addition to the Sheriff’s Office investigation, the matter has also been referred to the New York State Commission of Correction for their investigation.
