According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On June 30, 2019 at about 7:18 AM, Deputies responded to the intersection of Churton Rd and Youngs Rd in the Town of Vernon for a reported one car motor vehicle accident. Deputies determined that Michael Williamson (42), of Oriskany Falls, NY, was operating a blue 1997 GMC utility pick-up truck when he moved from his lane to avoid striking a dog in the roadway. Williamson collided with a telephone pole and a mailbox before coming to rest on the side of the road. The collision caused the top of the telephone pole to break free and become suspended in air across the roadway by the active power lines.

Williamson was evaluated by EMS and was uninjured in the accident. Williamson was issued a citation returnable to Town of Vernon court at a later date.

New York State DOT and National Grid on scene stated that Youngs Rd will be shut down from Churton Rd to Route 26 at the Vernon Center Circle for several hours while crews attempt to replace the telephone pole. The power lines are still active at this time, with no loss of power reported in the area.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office were assisted on scene by the Vernon Center Fire Department and the New York State Police.
