According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on 1-21-20 at about 2:30 pm the Recreational Vehicle Enforcement Unit was investigating a separate trespass compliant on Trail C4C at the Yager Rd intersection T/Vienna when this incident occurred. Milton F. Lighthall, 51 of Oneida approached Deputies at the intersection of trail C4C and Yager Rd while operating a 2003 Polaris snowmobile. Lighthall was signaled by Deputies to stop. After nearly coming to a stop Lighthall quickly accelerated past the Deputies while in very close proximity of the Deputies. Lighthall at this point left the trail and travelled down Yager Rd on bare pavement. Deputies later located Lighthall traveling down Powell Rd where he turned in a private residence, drove through the yard and then into the back woods. Lighthall was not on a trail at this time. Deputies made contact with homeowner to confirm that Lighthall did not live there. After a few minutes Deputies did not hear the snowmobile and believed that Lighthall either wrecked or shut it off. Deputies followed the tracks into the woods and located the snowmobile disabled. Deputies then followed the foot prints in the snow towards McConnellsville. Lighthall was taken into custody near McConnellsville Rd and Rt 13 T/Vienna where he finally sat down, giving up. Lighthall was transported to the Law Enforcement Building where he was processed. Lighthall was issued 5 NYS Parks and Recreation Law tickets which included, failure to comply with police officer, reckless operation, unregistered snowmobile, uninsured snowmobile and inadequate exhaust. All of those tickets are returnable at a later date to LCC Vienna. Lighthall was turned over to Oneida City PD on one of his active warrants. Lighthall had two more active warrants, one from the Town of Dewitt PD and the other from the Syracuse Police Department. No injuries occurred during this incident. The snowmobile was impounded at the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police.
