*****UPDATE FROM FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE****

In the early morning hours of June 22, 2020, Steven Mahana passed away due to his injuries sustained in this accident. The investigation is still ongoing but it appears for an unknown reason, Ronald Secor left his lane of travel, crossed over the center lane and entered into the south bound lane where the collision occurred with Steven Mahana. At this time, no further details will be released regarding this investigation.

BELOW IS THE PRESS RELEASE FROM JUNE 21, 2020

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on June 21, 2020 at around 6:53 P.M., Road Patrol Deputies responded to the area of River Road in the Town of Camden for a Fatal Motorcycle Accident.

Though the accident is still being investigated and reconstructed by the Oneida County Forensics Unit at this time, it was discovered that Ronald Secor, 65, of Rome, was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle in a northerly direction on River Road when at some point he collided with Steven Mahana, 55, of Clay, who was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle southerly on River Road in tandem with Mary Akshar, 57, of Fayetteville who was operating a separate Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Upon the fire department’s arrival, it was apparent that Secor was deceased on scene. Mahana was air lifted by Mercy Flight to a Syracuse Area Hospital with life threatening injuries. Akshar was treated and released on scene by EMS.

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined and no traffic citations have been issued at this time.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Camden Fire Department, Camden Ambulance, and Mercy Flight.
