According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol around 2:23 PM Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on State Route 31 in the Town of Verona involving an unloaded Western Stat tractor trailer and a Mazda 6 passenger vehicle. An investigation revealed that Kathleen Alberico (67) of Longwood, FL was operating a 2011 Mazda 6 and had come to a rest along the northern shoulder of the roadway to the right of the solid white fog line. It was found that Kathleen attempted to re-enter the roadway from the northern shoulder and cross both lanes of traffic so that she could enter a driveway along the southern shoulder of the roadway. As Kathleen was making an improper left turn on the two lane highway it was determined that Kenneth Kiehn (58) of Munnsville, NY was also traveling in a westerly direction and attempted to pass Kathleen on the left. Kathleen did not see the oncoming traffic and subsequently was struck on the drivers side front fender of her vehicle causing damage to her vehicle as well as the Western Star tractor trailer. Kathleen reported injuries to her neck and head and was transported by Vineall Ambulance to St. Elizabeths for further evaluation. Kathleen was issued a traffic summons for improper left turn on a two way roadway and is due to return to Verona Town Court at a later date and time.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the Verona Fire Department.

The roadway is open to all traffic at this time.
