According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On July 10, 2021, at about 2:11 PM, Deputies responded to the intersection of Canal St and Route 31 in the Town of Verona for a reported two car personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Linda Belton (59), of Verona Beach, NY, was operating a black 2002 Mercedes-Benz convertible Northbound on Route 46 and was stopped at a red light for the intersection of Route 31. Belton’s vehicle was then struck in the rear bumper by another vehicle traveling Northbound causing minor damage before fleeing the scene of the accident, continuing Northbound on Route 46 towards the City of Rome.

Belton was treated and released on scene for neck pain.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Durhamville Fire Department.

The suspect vehicle was described as an older model, brown or tan colored Saab or Audi sedan with a roof rack and white license plates, and may now possibly have front end damage.
