According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a generalized Tik Tok post that has been circulating amongst Tik Tok users all across the nation that threatens school violence somewhere on December 17th. The Sheriff’s Office is advising everyone that these threats are unsubstantiated at this time and there is no viable threat to any specific school, students, or staff.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind parents to take this opportunity to talk with your children about the seriousness and resulting consequences of making threats of any kind and the appropriate use of the various types of social media platforms that are utilized by kids today. Also, if anyone sees or is made aware of any type of threat, to please notify law enforcement or school officials immediately. If a threatening post is seen on social media, please report it, not repost it.

In response to this recent nationwide Tik Tok post, an increased presence of law enforcement will be seen tomorrow at schools throughout the county.
