According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on June 5, 2022, at approximately 1:45 PM Oneida County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on State Route 365 at the intersection of State Route 26 in the City of Rome.

Deputies determined that Frederick Mathis 92, of North Syracuse, was operating a 2018 Kia northerly on State Route 26 at which time he stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to cross State Route 365 failing to yield the right of way, striking a 2009 Subaru driven by Joshua Williams, 27, of Rome. Mathis was transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital via AmCare ambulance for face and leg injuries. Williams was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital for arm pain.

Mathis was issued a citation returnable to Rome City Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the City of Rome Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance, and the New York State Police.
