According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Westernville woman was hospitalized due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash that occurred just before 4:00 PM at the intersection of Stokes-Lee Center Road and Thomas Road in the Town of Lee.

Denielle L. Walker, 39, of Westernville was driving a 1996 Dodge pickup east on Stokes-Lee Center Road when a 2018 Chevrolet SUV driven by June M. Aikens, 92, of Rome attempted to cross Stokes-Lee Center Road northbound from Thomas Road. Walker's vehicle first struck Aikens' vehicle on the rear, driver's side, then crossed the westbound lane of Stokes-Lee Center Road and struck the guide rail. Aikens' vehicle spun and struck a tree at the northeast corner of the intersection after the strike. Aikens was uninjured as was Walker's passenger. Walker complained of chest and left side pain and was transported by AmCare ambulance to Rome Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

Aikens was cited for failure to yield right of way and issued a traffic summons returnable to Lee Town Court on an upcoming date.

Members of the New York State Police, Lee Center Fire & Rescue, and AmCare ambulance assisted at the scene.
