According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on October 6, 2022, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Unit received paperwork from Utica Family Court regarding concerning statements an individual made.

On October 7, 2022, with the information the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was given, the Criminal Investigation Unit completed paperwork requesting an Extreme Risk Protection Order through Oneida County Supreme Court.

A temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) was granted authorizing the Sheriff’s Office permission to search and secure all firearms. Shortly after, numerous Sheriff’s Office’s personnel responded to an address on Cider Street in the Town of Whitestown and executed the ERPO search warrant order. After the search of the residence, numerous firearms were secured including an unregistered handgun. After the investigation was complete, the Criminal Investigation Unit located and arrested Joshua Shannon, age 44, from the Town of Whitestown.

Shannon was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Building where he was arrested and processed for Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a class E Felony.

Shannon was then arraigned in CAP Court where he was released on his own recognizance.
