February 15 is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day!

Today we recognize Deputies (SRO) Divovic, Houle, Kinderman, and Sack, along with unit supervisor Sergeant Avard. These Deputies assist the school administration in maintaining a safe and secure environment. School administrators benefit from the SRO's training, knowledge, and experience in handling situations. The SRO provides a highly visible presence to deter or identify trespassers on campus, among other law enforcement concerns.

These SRO’s are not only a positive role model for the students but also help create relationships and build trust with the buildings they are assigned. Through this, students learn and understand what a professional Sheriff’s Deputy does.

In Oneida County, we also have Special Patrol Officers (SPO). With over 110 members, these dedicated men and women are assigned to local schools and County buildings. These SPO’s have already completed a career in Law Enforcement, but have returned to the workforce to continue to serve their community.

A Special Patrol Officer’s primary responsibility is to provide safety and security to the students and staff in our schools. The SPO also helps with building positive relations within the school and with community members.

The dedicated and hard-working members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office keep your children safe, not just today, but every single day!
