According to the Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, Deputies responded to a three-car motor vehicle accident with personal injuries on State Route 49 in the Town of Floyd.

On February 19, 2024, at about 7:30 a.m., Deputies responded to State Route 49 in the Town of Floyd for a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. During the investigation, Deputies determined that Gabrielle Barst, age 24, of Arizona, was operating a 1995 Ford Van in an Easterly Direction on State Route 49 at a speed not reasonable/prudent and following too closely. Barsy struck a 2000 Hawkins and Hurlbut Sanitation Truck occupied by John Coonrod, age 46, of Rome, and Donald Smith, age 47, of Rome, also traveling in an Easterly Direction on State Route 49. Subsequently, Barst was struck by a 2019 Volkswagon occupied by Robert Moynihan, age 58, of Rome.

Barst and Moynihan were transported by AmCare Ambulance to the Wynn Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Smith was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital also for non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to this motor vehicle accident, an additional vehicle ran off the roadway. No injuries were reported. Furthermore, an additional three-car motor vehicle accident occurred west of the first motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported for that motor vehicle accident.

Traffic citations were issued returnable to Floyd Town Court on a later date.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by AmCare Ambulance, Floyd Fire Department, Stittville Fire Department, and the New York State Police.
