According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the operator of the third vehicle involved, was identified as Deborah A. Gilbert, 68, of Boonville NY. Gilbert was traveling north bound on State Route 46, in the Town of Western, in a 2015 Subaru, when Shaughnessy's vehicle entered her lane of travel and struck her vehicle.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on June 19th, 2024, at approximately 11:17am, Road Patrol Deputies responded to State Route 46, in the Town of Western, for a personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival it was discovered that there were three separate vehicles involved in the motor vehicle crash. A 2002 Ford F-250 being operated by James R. Shaughnessy, 69 of Canastota, NY was traveling southbound on Route 46 when he struck the mirror of a 2017 Ford F250 being operated by, Anthony J. Donatelli, 50 of Forestport, NY. Donatelli was traveling northbound on Route 46. The initial collision was followed by Shaughnessy losing control of his vehicle and entering the northbound lane where a third vehicle was struck head on. The operator of this vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Shaughnessy was ejected from his vehicle as a result of the crash. He was transported to SUNY Upstate, via Mercy Flight, for non life-threatening injuries. Donatelli, was not injured during the crash and only sustained property damage to his vehicle.

The Oneida County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investigation Unit is still investigating the crash, to determine additional factors that may have been involved. Anyone that may have witnessed this accident and has not been interviewed by members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, is encouraged to contact Investigator N. Marcano at (315)765-2715. The name of the deceased will not be released at this time, pending next of kin notification.
