According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on July 21, 2024, at about 5:20 PM, Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Rt. 46 and Gifford Hill Road intersection in the Town of Western.

Upon investigation, Sheriff Deputies determined that Julie A. Brown, age 58, of Rome was traveling west on Gifford Hill Road in a 2015 Subaru. Brown failed to yield right of way at the intersection and collided with a 2022 Ford driven by Catherine M. Perry, age 36 of Remsen with three Juveniles, who were traveling south on Rt. 46. Parry and her passengers were transported to Rome Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Brown signed off on medical care at the scene. Brown was issued a citation for failing to yield right of way at the intersection, to be returned at a later date at Western Town Court.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Western Fire Department and Amcare Ambulance.
