According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on July 31st, 2024, at approximately 3:33 pm, Road Patrol Deputies responded to Clark Mills Rd, in the Town of Whitestown, for a single car motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that Zechariah L. Lightsey, 37, of Canastota, was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Clarks Mills Rd, when Zechariah failed to keep right, by entering the westbound lane of travel and driving onto the northern shoulder of the roadway. As Lightsey's vehicle drove onto the northern shoulder of the roadway, his vehicle struck a mailbox, utility pole and came to rest, after striking a nearby residence. Lightsey was pronounced deceased at the scene. None of the occupants of the residence were injured during this incident.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit is still investigating the crash, to determine additional factors that may have been involved. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the New York Mills Police Department, Whitestown Police Department, Town of Kirkland Police Department, New York State Police, Clark Mills Fire Department, New York Mills Fire Department, COCVAC Ambulance and the Onondaga Medical Examiners Office.

Clark Mills Road was temporarily closed during the investigation and is now re-opened to the public.
