According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a…
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Maryland woman was arrested following a failure to comply in the Village of Remsen. On 10/31/2024 at around 3:30 PM, a Patrol Deputy observed a 2014 Ford pickup truck traveling in the southerly direction on Main St in the Village of Remsen, swerving in and out of the lane and crossing into oncoming traffic and almost colliding with multiple vehicles head-on . The Deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens in effort to conduct a traffic stop and vehicle initially pulled over in a nearby parking lot. After stopping for a brief time the vehicle fled in the southerly direction. A short distance later the vehicle stopped and the deputy was able to conduct a traffic stop investigation. The operator who was identified as Melissa M. Hovancik, age 44 of Maryland, was taken into custody at that time with no further incidents.
After investigation, Hovancik was arrested and charged with following:
1 count of Unlawful fleeing a police officer 3rd degree (A misdemeanor)
1 count of Driving while intoxicated refusal to submit to a chemical test
1 count of Reckless Driving
5 Vehicle and Traffic tickets.
Hovancik was arraigned in Oneida County CAP Court where her driver license was suspended and she was ROR. She is scheduled to appear in Remsen Town Court at a later date.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by New York State Police and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police.
