This morning, several members of the Oneida County…
This morning, several members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office presented a $6,000 donation that they raised through their participation in “No Shave November” to Kathy Caruso, founder of Better Together, and Vicent Scalise from the Utica Center for Development. Typically, the monies raised through “No Shave November” events go towards men’s cancer research – however, this year the money raised at the Sheriff’s Office will go to help raise funds to construct the “Better Together Center”, a new community recreation center for persons with disabilities. This morning’s event was held at the Utica Center for Development, where the future “Better Together Center” will be located.
In order to participate in this fundraising event, members of the Sheriff’s Office made a $50 donation to the “Better Together Center” and in return for the donation, they are allowed to grow facial hair for the month of November. Female employees that wanted to participate in the fundraising event were allowed to paint their fingernails any color of their choice. A total of 111 members of the Sheriff’s Office are participating in the event along with additional donations from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Foundation, the DSBA Local 1249, and a community member not affiliated with the Sheriff’s Office – all of which totaled $6,000.
