According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, one woman was injured following a motor vehicle accident. On 03/23/2018 at about 7:33 AM, Patrol Deputies respond to Route 49 at the Griffiss Exit in the City of Rome for a reported personal injury accident. Deputies stated that Dean Chrzan, age 40, of Oriskany, was operating a 2011 Birnie Bus Service School bus east on Route 49 when he attempted to make a lane change. While making the lane change, he cut off, Vicki Lavine, age 43, of Ava, who was operating her 2015 Chevrolet Cruz. Lavine lost control of her vehicle when she attempted to avoid the bus and struck a street sign and the center median. Lavine complained of shoulder pain and was transported to Rome Memorial ER by AmCare Ambulance. Chrzan and his passenger, bus monitor Steven Cruz, age 34, were not injured. There were no students on the bus at the time. Chrzan was issued a traffic summons for Unsafe Lane Change and is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court in April. Rome Fire Department and New York State Police assisted Deputies on scene.
