The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 12 in the Town of Kirkland

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, Sheriff’s Deputies and Kirkland Police responded to a motor vehicle crash at approximately 7:45 this morning on Route 12 in the Town of Kirkland, South of Tibbitts Road. When they arrived they found a passenger car and a pickup truck were involved, and the passenger in the car was deceased. Sheriff Maciol said that a car was traveling North bound on Route 12, and crossed over into the oncoming lane, striking a pickup truck that was traveling South. The passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Clinton Fire Department.

The drivers of the vehicles were both transported by Central Oneida County Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. The driver of the truck was treated and released. The driver of the car was treated, and then transported to SUNY Hospital in Syracuse. His condition is unknown at this time, but his injuries are not life threatening.

Sheriff Maciol said that the road was shut down for several hours while members of the Sheriff’s reconstruction team reconstructed the crash. No tickets have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing.

The names of the individuals are not being released until the next of kin can be notified. Some of the family members are out of state.
