According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on January 10th, 2019 at about 1550 hours Deputies responded to a serious injury two car motor vehicle accident on State Route 26 at the intersection with Skinner Road. The investigation into this accident has revealed Claude Crowell (46) of Rome was traveling south on State Route 26 in a 2008 Chrysler Van when he attempted to turn left on to Skinner Rd in the Town of Westmoreland. Crowell's van crossed in front of a 2016 Chevrolet Van being operated by Ashlee Rubyor north on State Route 26 causing the collision. James Gonzalez (35) of Vernon was a passenger in Crowell's van and was seriously injured in the accident. Gonzalez was airlifted by Mercy Flight Helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where he is currently listed in critical condition. Rubyor was transported by Central Oneida County Ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital for apparent minor injuries and Crowell was treated and released at the scene. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Accident Reconstruction Unit all responded to the scene to assist Road Patrol in investigating the accident. The reconstruction is continuing at this time and the roadways are still closed. We will update when the roadway has been re-opened.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was also assisted by the New York State Police, Westmoreland Fire Department and Central Oneida County Ambulance on scene.
