According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, an out of state woman was injured in a snowmobile accident in the Town of Boonville.

The accident occurred on February 2, 2019 at about 12:45 PM when 41 year old Patel Samir, from Ontario Ohio, was operating a 2004 Polaris snowmobile westerly on Smith Road when he lost control of his machine on the icy roadway. The snowmobile skidded sideways and then rolled over, causing Samir and his passenger, 51 year old Rita R. Shinde, also from Ontario Ohio, to be ejected from the machine.

Shinde complained of pain on her right leg and pain on her right side. She was treated at the scene by members of the Boonville Fire Department and later transported by STaR Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s in Utica for further treatment.

The accident was investigated by Deputies Snider, Dillenbeck and Investigator Chrysler from the Sheriff’s Snowmobile Unit who were patrolling on snowmobiles in the Boonville area when the call came in.

Deputies said that the accident was caused by operator inexperience and icy conditions. No tickets have been issued.
