According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, on March 17, 2019, at around 10:00 PM, Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a Fatal Snowmobile Accident in the Town of Remsen.

The accident occurred on New York State Snowmobile Trail C4, which runs between the area of Old Stage Road and James Road in Remsen. The investigation revealed that 26 year old Benjamin Lahan, of Liverpool NY, was riding with two other friends at the time of the accident. Lahan had rode ahead of his friends and was operating his 2016 Ski-Doo snowmobile southerly on Trail C4 when he lost control while negotiating a curve in the trail. As a result of Lahan losing control, he was ejected from his snowmobile and struck a tree. The parties that Lahan was riding with found him a short time later after the accident and contacted 911. First Responders arrived on scene and a UTV from Barneveld Fire Department had to be utilized to get to the scene of the accident. Life saving measures were attempted but Lahan succumbed to his injuries on scene.

At this time the investigation is still ongoing.

The Sheriffs Office was assisted on scene by members of the New York State Police, Remsen Fire Department, Barneveld Fire Department, and STAR Ambulance.
