According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, Deputies responded to the General William Floyd Elementary schoolin Holland Patent after the districts Sheriff’s Special Patrol Officer reported hearing what sounded like gun shots in the vicinity of the school.

On Friday April 26, 2019, at about 1245am, the Special Patrol Officer notified Oneida County 911 that he had heard what sounded like gunshots coming from private pastures and woodland west of the campus. As a precautionary measure the district placed all buildings in a lock-out, having a purpose of recovering all students from outside the building and securing the perimeter by locking all doors.

Upon arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police and New York State Environmental Conservation Police, an extensive area check was conducted. Those areas including the immediate school grounds, area roadways, and a foot search of the adjoining woodlands and pastures. Neighborhood interviews were also conducted and the investigation was unfounded.

The District was in Lockout for approximately 45 minutes and at no time were any students or staff in danger.
