ROME MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING A CHILD

According to Oneida County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara of the Child Advocacy Center A Rome man was arrested this morning and charged with

abusing a child earlier this month.

Rome Police Detective E.A. D'Alessandro, of the Child Advocacy Center charged Michael P. Egelston, 26, of Rome's inner district, after a several week long investigation. Det. D'Alessandro said Egelston was charged with both, Sexual Abuse in the third degree and Endangering the welfare of a child, regarding an incident that occurred in Rome's inner district during the overnight hours of May 31, 2019 into June 1, 2019. D'Alessandro stated that Egelston was arrested and processed at the Rome Police Department and is currently awaiting arraignment in Rome City lockup.

Det. D'Alessandro requested an order of protection be issued on behalf of the victim.

The victim has been offered counseling through the Child Advocacy Center.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible, according to Det. D'Alessandro.
