According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On June 20, 2019 at about 712 AM, Deputies responded to Lowell Rd in the Town of Westmoreland for a reported two car motor vehicle accident involving a Birnie Bus.

Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Robert Edwards (55), of Rome, NY, was operating a gray 2011 Chevy Traverse East on Lowell Rd. Edwards failed to stop in time for the school bus when it activated its yellow flashing lights and attempted to stop to pick-up a student. Edwards struck the yellow 2015 Freightliner Westmoreland School Bus #141 operated by Walter Lauber (63), of Whitesboro, NY in the rear end of the school bus causing minimal damage to his vehicle and no apparent damage to the school bus. Edwards and Lauber were both uninjured as a result of the accident. The school bus was carrying seven student passengers at the time, all of whom were also uninjured. Edwards was issued a citation returnable to Town of Westmoreland court at a later date.
