On 6-22-19 at 10:45 am on Lake Oneida a boat accident was reported to Oneida County Emergency Services. According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol the Sheriff’s Marine Patrol along with the Road Patrol responded to the accident which was investigated in Marion Manor Marina off of Rt 13 in Madison County. The accident occurred in Oneida County just off shore of Verona Beach State Park. David Kopytowski of Stokesdale NC was operating his 1990 Bayliner with a 7 year child aboard. Kopytowski was attempting to get his boat up on plane and was dealing with a scared 7 year old passenger when he stuck another boat. The other boat was a 1997 Specy operated by Roger Jackson from Bridgeport NY. Jackson’s boat was trolling while fishing. Jackson had 2 other persons on board at the time of the accident. One of Jackson’s passenger’s was thrown from the boat during the impact. Kopytowski’s boat drove up and on to Jackson’s boat causing damage to the top and side of Jackson’s boat and the front and bottom of Kopytowski’s boat. Both boats were able to safely make it back to Marion Manor Marina. No injuries were reported. Kopytowski was ticketed for Reckless Operation (misdemeanor) and No Visual Distress Signal. Tickets are returnable to Verona Court at a later date. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Oneida Nation Police on shore. The Sylvan Beach Fire Department along with Cleveland and Bridgeport Fire Departments assisted on the water. Vinall Ambulance was also dispatched to Marion Manor Marina.
