Motor Vehicle Accident temporarily closes State Route 20 Town of Sangerfiled:

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, Deputies were called to the area of Route 20 and Osborne Ave Town of Sangerfield for a tractor trailer accident. Investigating Deputies determined that a westbound tractor trailer driven by Todd J. Chandler 25, of Black River NY exited the north shoulder of the road and struck a utility pole bringing down high voltage primary power lines that blocked Route 20 just east of Osborne Ave. Deputies stated that the utility pole was snapped in half and became an airborne projectile damaging two parked cars at Potters Auto and Truck Sales on Route 20 and continued west knocking over the stop sign on Osborne at Route 20.

The 2007 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by Chandler continued another tenth of a mile before coming to rest and dumping approximately 50 gallons of Hydraulic oil from a punctured fuel tank. Mr. Chandler was issued a traffic ticket for speed not reasonable and prudent. His truck and trailer were towed from the scene by heavy wreckers from Clinton Collision.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by members from the Waterville Fire Dept, Central Oneida County Ambulance, and NYS Department of Transportation. NYS Electric&Gas immediately responded to the scene for repair of the utility pole and power lines. State Route 20 was reopened at about 5:30 PM for both east and west bound traffic. DEC Spill Response remained on scene to oversee the Hydraulic oil clean up.

No injuries were reported do to the accident.
