According to Sheriff Robert M Maciol on July 09, 2019 at about 4:15 PM , deputies investigated a property damage motor vehicle accident on Rt 46 in the City of Rome involving a Rome Fire Department truck(2008 Ford Crew Cab). Deputies stated that Matthew Smith, 36, of Holland Patent was waiting in traffic when he decided to do a U-turn . As Smith began the U-turn a Rome Fire Truck being operated by Lt Livingston was traveling southbound on Rt 46. The emergency lights of the fire vehicle were activated at the time of the collision. Livingston was unable to avoid the collision. No injuries were reported. Smith was issued a traffic ticket for an improper U-turn returnable at Rome City Court at a later date.
