According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol; On July 13, 2019 at about 0345 PM, Deputies responded to State Route 12 northbound near the Putnam Rd off-ramp in the Town of Barneveld for a reported single motorcycle personal injury accident. Upon arrival, Deputies determined that Charles Hoff (55), of Homer, NY, was operating a red 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle North on Route 12 in the passing lane when a deer entered the roadway from the West shoulder. Hoff attempted to slow down and avoid the deer but was unsuccessful and struck the deer head-on causing damage to the motorcycle, before the motorcycle went down and into the center median coming to rest. Hoff was taken from the scene to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital to be evaluated for head and arm injuries. A passenger on the motorcycle, Nancy Peak (54) of Homer, NY, was transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for head and leg injuries and heart complications. No citations have been issued at this time.
