According to Sheriff Robert Maciol of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at approximately 8:25 am, the Oneida County Sheriff's Security Unit at the Oneida County Courthouse in Utica was alerted to a vehicle that had just crashed into the courthouse outside wall of the building on the Elizabeth Street side. Deputies responded and found that there were no injuries.

At approximately 8:22 am, William Furman, 66 of Utica, NY had just pulled his 2019 Kia vehicle into a parking spot at the courthouse. It appears Mr Furman failed to put his vehicle into park and as he started to exit his vehicle, the vehicle rolled back down the hill, jumped a curb, struck a lamp pole, knocking it to the ground and then crashed in to the concrete wall of the courthouse. Mr Furman's vehicle sustained heavy rear end damage. The lamp pole was severed, however, the building structure did not sustain any damage.

Mr Furman was evaluated by the Utica Fire Department at the scene and found to be uninjured. The Utica Police Department also responded to the accident and assisted.
