According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Utica man was killed in a construction accident on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. Frankie T. Torchia, age 33, from Utica died after he fell off the roof of a 4 story building at 7692 Main St., in Clark Mills. Torchia had been hired to do construction work on the building and was at the site along with another worker. The two were in the process of setting a 30 foot piece of roofing metal on the roof when a gust of wind took the steel, knocking Torchia from the roof. Torchia was declared deceased at the scene. Torchia was transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause and manner of death. No safety equipment or harnesses were being utilized at the time of the accident.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Kirkland Police Department, Clark Mills Fire Department and Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

OSHA and the New York State Department of Labor also responded and investigated.
