According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on Tuesday, December 24th, 2019, at about 8:51 P.M., Deputies responded to the River Road off-ramp from State Route 49 in the Town of Marcy for a reported Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident. The investigation into the accident determined Christopher Martin, 58 of Utica, was operating a Red, 2006 Chrysler Sebring, north-east on the River Road exit off-ramp from State Route 49. Martin was following a Black, 2018, Jeep Cherokee, operated by a Philip A. Saporito, 42 of Utica. Saporito advised Deputies that due to Martin following him too closely, he pulled over onto the shoulder of the roadway just before coming to the intersection with River Road in hopes to let Martin pass him. Saporito stated that when he pulled over, Martin also pulled over behind him. Saporito explained that he opened his door slightly to try and obtain a better view of Martin. At this time Martin was attempting to exit his vehicle, and while doing so, Martin's vehicle was not placed into park causing Martin's vehicle to collide into the rear end of Saporito's Jeep, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Saporito stated that he sustained a shoulder injury where he had recently just had surgery completed due to the unexpected jolt of his vehicle being struck. Saporito was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for further evaluation by Kunkel Ambulance. Martin was issued a citation for the accident, and he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Marcy Court at a later date and time. Deputies were assisted by Kunkel Ambulance and Maynard Fire Department.
