According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on Sunday, February 09, 2020, at about 12:40 A.M., Deputies responded to S James Street in the City of Rome for a reported Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident. The investigation into the accident determined that Roy J. Campanaro, 64 of Rome, was operating a red, 2008 Ford F-350, North on S James Street when he lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to pass another vehicle. Campanaro's vehicle then left the roadway and struck a National Grid utility pole, severing the pole. Campanaro had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Rome Fire Department. Neither of Campanaros's passengers sustained injuries from the crash. Campanaro was transported to Rome Hospital by Amcare for further evaluation. Mr. Campanaro was also issued a Traffic Ticket for Speed not Reasonable and Prudent. Deputies were assisted on scene by Amcare Ambulance, Rome Fire Department, and National Grid.
