South James St Bridge - Update

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on Sunday at about 12:20 PM Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the South James Street bridge over the Barge Canal in the City of Rome for a report that someone had either fell or jumped into the water. It was reported that a coat was found by an opening in the ice where the caller had seen a person earlier in the day. Sheriff's Deputies with the assistance of NYS Police, Rome Police, and Rome Fire Department commenced an investigation and it was determined that no one was in the water and the person that had been witnessed in the area earlier had left the area without their coat. South James St. in the area of the bridge was closed for about an hour during the investigation and has since been reopened.
