According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on 6-21-20 at about 2:28 pm, Oneida County Emergency Services was notified of a boat that sank on Delta Lake. Sheriff's Marine Patrol responded and found that Michael Matthews 39 of Rome was out with his family boating when they noticed they were taking on water. Matthews had his wife, his 2 daughters and his uncle with him on the boat. Everyone was able to safely get off the boat and make it to shore. His boat a 27 foot Wellcraft boat sank to the bottom. Triple T recovery services was contracted by Matthews to lift and remove his boat from Delta Lake. NYS DEC Spill response was notified and responded to the scene and determined what fluids were released did not pose any hazards. Deputies determined that a previous repair to the hull on the rear of the boat failed and allowed water to enter the back of the boat. Deputies conducted a safety equipment inspection of Matthews' boat and found that Matthews had all the required safety equipment aboard his boat. No tickets were issues.
