According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol the Sheriff's Office responded to a motorcycle crash around 4:58 PM Thursday afternoon on Route 49 in the Town of Marcy near the Oriskany exit. Philip Cox, 70 of Rome was riding on his 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound when he lost control and exited the southern shoulder of the roadway and struck a guard rail. Mr. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene by members of Kunkel Ambulance who responded to the scene. The roadway had to be shut down for a short time while the crash was being investigated but is now back open to traffic.

The Sheriff's Office Forensic Unit and the Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene. The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the NYSP, Stittville Fire Department and Maynard Fire Department.
