According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a search warrant was executed on Noyes St in the City of Utica on July 10th 2020 by members of the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit. As a result of the search warrant, a quantity of suspected heroin was seized along with packaging material and other drug paraphernalia. Amanda A. Velardi was found to be in possession of these items, however due to the new New York State Discovery Laws, Velardi could not be arrested on that date as Investigators will now have to send all evidence to the New York State Police Lab for analysis before charges can be filed. Once Investigators receive analysis results in the coming months, the investigation will be submitted to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office for Grand Jury consideration. If an Oneida County Grand Jury finds there is enough evidence, indictment warrants will be issued for the suspect involved in the investigation. The warrants will then be turned over to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit to locate Velardi and make the arrest. The Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was assisted with this investigation by members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Rome Police Department SIU and Utica Police Department.
