According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, two men have been arrested after a physical altercation occurred in the Town of Westmoreland. At approximately 12:45 AM on August 1, 2020, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Unit responded to a field on Shed Road in the Town of Westmoreland for a fight complaint. Upon arrival, Deputies determined that an altercation had occurred resulting in a 22 year old male victim sustaining injuries to his face where medical attention was needed at a local hospital. During the course of the investigation, two suspects were identified and both had physical contact with the victim. On August 6, 2020, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit arrested Alex Baird, age 21, and Derik Baker, age 20. Baird was arrested for Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony. Baird was processed at the Law Enforcement Building and was transported to the Oneida County Jail pending an arraignment in CAP Court. Baker was arrested for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a class A Misdemeanor. Baker was processed at the Law Enforcement Building and released on an appearance ticket returnable to Westmoreland Town Court on a later date.
