Update: Victim information to MVA

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on August 20, 2020 at around 3:00 P.M., Road Patrol Deputies responded to the intersection of State Route 5 and State Route 233 in the Town of Westmoreland for a serious personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Though the accident is still being investigated by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Forensics Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit, it was discovered that an 88 year old male, was operating a 2003 Chevrolet S10 easterly on State Route 5 in the Town of Westmoreland when he entered into the intersection with State Route 233. Upon entering the intersection, a collision occurred with two separate vehicles, a 2017 Hyundai Sonata being operated by a Michael H. Houle, 46, and a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado being operated by a Robert H. Britton, 61.

Upon arrival to the accident from numerous agencies, it was apparent that the 88 year old male sustained serious injuries from the accident and was immediately transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital by C.O.C.V.A.C. While at the Hospital, the male succumbed to his injuries from the accident. Michael Houle, Robert Britton and his two passengers, Virginia Britton, 65, and Star Gildersleeve, 43, were evaluated on scene and not injured.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, the Kirkland Police Department, and the Westmoreland Fire Department and the New York State D.OT. During the investigation sections of State Route 5 and State Route 233 were closed and have now been re-opened for traffic. At this time, the name of the deceased will be withheld pending next of kin notification.
