According to Sheriff Robert Maciol on August 22, 2020, at around 7PM members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol responded to Route 365 in the area of South James Street, in the City of Rome, for a reported personal injury motor vehicle accident.

It was found that Ed Austrie, age 32, of Utica NY, was operating his 2008 Harley Davidson Motorcycle with Brittney Kistner, age 20, of Utica NY, riding as a passenger, westbound when they encountered uneven pavement in the roadway. Due to the uneven pavement Austrie began to lose control of the motorcycle resulting in both parties being partially ejected. The motorcycle then came to rest on the southern shoulder of the roadway. Both parties were transported to St. Elizabeths Hospital for non life threatening injuries.

Austrie was issued traffic tickets for uninspected motor vehicle, unregistered motorcycle, and operating without insurance. Austrie is due to appear in Rome City Court at a later time.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by members of the Rome Fire Department, AmCare Ambulance, and Mike Jr's Towing.
