According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol , On 9-5-20 at 3:32 pm Oneida County Emergency Services received a 911 call for a boat in distress. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol which was on Patrol at the time of call was able to get to the boat within minutes of the call. Deputies found a 25 foot Crestliner pontoon boat had received significant front end damage from several waves coming over the bow. The Sheriff’s Deputies assisted 6 of the 7 passengers off the boat and onto Marine 1. The operator Anthony P. Tanoury, 67 of Cassvile remained on board while Tow Boat US Oneida Group towed the vessel into the canal. The cause of the accident was due to a strong squall that hit Oneida Lake causing 4-5 foot waves. These waves were too large for this type of boat. A full vessel inspection was completed at the dock and the vessel was found to be in full compliance. No injuries were reported.
