According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, 1 person was sent to the hospital following a two-car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Steuben. On September 9th, 2020 at approximately 8:50 am, Gregory A. Mattacola, age 51 of Rome, NY was operating his 2017 Ford pick-up-truck westbound on Fuller Road when he collided with an agriculture vehicle that was operated by Joseph O. Burkert, age 35 of Ava, NY. The investigation revealed that Mattacola attempted to pass Burkert while Burkert was making a right hand turn onto a driveway. Due to that, the left side of Mattacola's vehicle collided with the front end of Burkert's vehicle, Mattacola then lost control of his vehicle and overturned and came to rest in the ditch. Mattacola was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital for his apparent injuries. Mattacola was cited for following too closely and failed to yield the right away. The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Star Ambulance and Holland Patent FD.
