Update: Personal injury motor vehicle crash Rome-Taberg Road C/Rome

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, at 6:53 AM, Deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle personal injury motor vehicle crash on Rome-Taberg Road in the City of Rome. Nicole L. Podkowka, 47, of Lee was driving east on Rome-Taberg Road in a Ford F-150 pickup when a white SUV, also driving east, approached Podkowka's vehicle from behind at a high rate of speed. Podkowka attempted to move to her right so that the SUV could pass but was struck from behind by the Buick ECR SUV being driven by Jenna L. Dole, 25, of Camden. Both vehicles were propelled off from the south side of Rome-Taberg Road where Podkowka's vehicle then struck a culvert and overturned before coming to rest. Dole's vehicle struck the embankment and also overturned, coming to rest on it's side. Podkowka was transported by AmCare ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. Dole was transported by Mercy Flight to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where she remains under observation. A portion of Rome-Taberg Road between Humaston Road and Gore Road was shut down for several hours this morning while the crash was being investigated. No tickets have been issued at this time as the crash remains under investigation. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene, by New York State DOT, members of the City of Rome Fire Department, Mercy Flight and AmCare ambulance.
