According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, On Friday, November 6th 2020, a male was arrested following a traffic stop in the Town of Verona.

On Friday, November 6th 2020, at about 9:16 PM, A Deputy assigned to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office DWI Enforcement Unit conducted a motor vehicle stop on a gold in color Dodge Dakota pickup truck on Spring Road in the Town of Verona. The vehicle was initially stopped for vehicle and traffic law violations.

As the Deputy spoke with the driver, Raymond J. Newman 50, of Augusta New York, he noticed indicators of impairment by alcohol. Newman was ultimately put through standardized field sobriety testing which showed that Newman was impaired by alcohol.

Newman was subsequently taken into custody for driving while intoxicated where he was then transported to the Oneida Indian Nation Police substation on State Route 365 for initial processing. After clearing the substation, Newman was transported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Building where he was booked for DWI.

Newman was issued 7 traffic citations which included him having a BaC over a .08. Newman is scheduled to return to Verona Town Court at a later date where he was then released to a sober party.

During the investigation, The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oneida Indian Nation Police and the New York State Police.
