According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, two people were injured after a UTV accident occurred on property near Cook Road in the Town of Annsville just before 7:30 AM this morning. Celestino Fonseco 42, of St. Cloud Florida, was operating a Polaris side-by-side UTV when it became stuck in frozen mud. Fonseco was in the process of removing mud from the UTV when the accelerator pedal became stuck at full acceleration and the UTV sped off without an operator across uneven terrain. Courtney Houle 35, of Rome, was ejected from the rear of the driverless UTV which then continued east and struck Christopher Phelps 24, of Lee while he was on Cook Road before it crossed Cook Road and crashed into a tree. Houle was transported by AmCare ambulance to Rome Hospital where she is being treated for non life-threatening injuries. Phelps was evaluated by EMS on scene, but refused transport. There were no tickets issued. Members of Taberg Fire, AmCare ambulance and the New York State Police assisted on scene.
