According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, deputies responded to a car pedestrian fatal motor vehicle accident on Skinner Road, between Moore and Tudman Roads in the Town of Westmoreland at approximately 6:00 AM this morning. When deputies arrived they found that a white male had been struck by a car that was being driven by Tamara Danyew of Vernon. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was shut down for several hours so that Sheriff’s investigators and reconstruction personnel could reconstructed the accident.

The initial investigation shows that the driver of the car was on her way to work and traveling in a Southeasterly direction on Skinner Road. The male was walking in the middle of the lane, also traveling Southeast, having his back to traffic. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, and black boots. There are no streetlights in the area and the driver of the vehicle was unable to see the pedestrian until the last second. She tried to stop but was unable to avoid him. After striking the male, the driver called 911 and then got out and performed CPR until emergency personnel arrived. Although it’s early in the investigation, investigators so far have been able to rule out intoxication and cellphone usage.

The male did not have ID and Sheriff’s investigators are trying to identify him. He is a white male and appears to be in his late teens or early twenties. If anyone has any information as to the identity of the person, may have seen him walking, or has any information about the accident, please call Sheriff’s Investigators at 315-736-0141.

The investigation is continuing.
