According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol, deputies responded to a 2-car fatal motor vehicle crash at State Route 28 at Woodgate Road in the Town of Forestport. At approximately 1 PM this afternoon the crash occurred at the intersection. Jennifer Palermo, 43 of Old Forge was operating a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Route 28 with a 5 year old and 10 year old in the vehicle. Kirsten Down, 67 of Old Forge was pronounced dead at the scene. Down was operating a 2018 Honda Accord and was on Woodgate Road attempting to turn northbound on Route 28. Mrs. Down's vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by Palermo's vehicle. Palermo and the children were all transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica for evaluation with minor injuries. The Criminal Investigation Unit along with the ID unit were on scene investigating. The crash was reconstructed during the investigation. The crash is still being investigated and no tickets have been issued.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Forestport Fire Department, Boonville Fire Department, Woodgate Fire Department, Remsen Fire Department, NYSP, STaR Ambulance, Boonville Ambulance and the Department of Transportation.
