According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, a man was arrested following an incident on Route 5 in the Town of Vernon.

On May 8th, 2021 at approximately 7:36 am, The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to 4826 Route 5 in the Town of Vernon for reports of an unconscious male in a white 2013 Subaru on the side of the road. As deputies spoke with the driver, Jakob V. Abel (23), of Oneida, they noticed indicators of impairment from alcohol. Abel was ultimately put through standardized field sobriety testing which showed that Abel was intoxicated.

Abel was subsequently taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated where he was then transported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Building where he was booked/processed for his charges.

Abel was charged with the following:

(1) Count of Driving While Intoxicated

(1) Count of DWI 0.08% BAC or greater

(1) Count of consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle

After Abel was booked/processed for his charges, he was released to a sober party with traffic tickets returnable to Vernon Town Court at a later date.
