According to Oneida County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Rome man was arrested on May 20, 2021, by members of the CAC. On 5/20/21, The CAC received a report regarding allegations of sexual abuse of a 12 year old female child by an adult male. The investigation was led by Oneida County Sheriff's Office Sergeant. M. Bolton, who is assigned at the CAC. The investigation revealed that Steven Johnson, age 45, had engaged in sexual intercourse with the 12 year old female child on 5/17/21 at a residence in the City of Rome. Johnson, who is a Level 2 registered sex offender and current NYS Parolee, was taken into custody at his residence by Sgt. Bolton and OCSO Investigator Ryan Marshall. Johnson was charged with one count of Rape in the First Degree, a Class B Felony. Johnson was arraigned at the Centralized Arraignment Court on 5/20/21 and was remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility, where he is being held on no bail. An order of protection was issued by the court, on behalf of the child. The child has been offered services through the Child Advocacy Center.
